ABCs of Prescription Drug Safety

The ABCs of Prescription Drug Safety is a new educational brochure, specifically designed to address proper home drug use. The Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health (DASH Center) team used decades of peer-reviewed research and clinical experience to create an intervention with relevant information for youth and adults.

The ABCs brochure includes a patient adherence contract, uniquely ensuring patients are informed about the proper use, storage, and disposal of controlled medications. The DASH Center created the brochure to meet federal and state compliance laws for opioids.

Nurses can educate patients with this quick intervention during office visits, and give patients a colorful, easy-to-understand brochure they can keep in their homes. A complementary poster is also available for use in waiting rooms and exam rooms in order to raise awareness about safe prescription drug use in their community.
